ADELAIDE my city

October 19, 2008 - 2:00 to 4:00 pm

Hamstead Gardens Church of Christ
Gambia Avenue, Hamstead Gardens, SA

Kelly Turnbull, currently the youngest member of the Para Camera Club, is showcasing her photographic works in her first solo exhibition: ADELAIDE my city.

Kelly is a keen participant in the Para Camera Club monthly competitions and activities. Her hard work this year as part of her Year 12 Community Studies has culminated in a body of work that Kelly is proud to present to the public and you are invited.

Kelly explains:

Community Studies is a year 12 general subject where the student decides on a project with the guidance of there teacher and submits a contract to SABSSA for approval. Once the contract has been approved the student is bound to meet all of the requirements of the contract.

The main object is to learn from people within the community, not from your teachers or family members. These people become known as your community contacts.

I chose to use photography as my project and must present a portfolio of about 10 images showing different styles of photography and hold an exhibition with a theme.

As part of my project, I must keep a journal of all of my meeting, conversations, emails and all other evidence of my learning and outcomes which will be submitted to SABSSA for grading. My images themselves are not really graded but the evidence that I have learned and met the conditions of my contract.

I have been very lucky to have some talented people teaching me and helping me along the way. All members of Para Camera Club have been supportive and interested in what I have been doing. My community contacts are Yvonne Hill, Andy Smylie and Greg Eyre. All have been very generous with there time and giving me some great advice.

My thanks must go to Mr Jeff Rosen from Elite Picture Framing, http://www.eliteframing.com.au/, who assisted me with framing supplies and advice.

It has been about 8 months of hard work and I have had a great time learning from my talented Community Contacts and getting to know them. My exhibition will be for me a time to thank people, show my work and finish off this long project.
